Mix Results

for version 5.5.5 or later.

The Mix Result dialog shows up to 100 mix solutions for the selected colour.  The selected colour is shown at the bottom left of each mix solution and is labelled as Target.

Each mix is split into 2 columns:

The 1st column lists the paints required with an indication of the proportions to use.

These proportions are only suggestions. You may, in fact, need more or less of each colour, depending on the density of pigment in your particular paint.

The 2nd column shows the colour you are aiming for as each paint is added to the mix. It shows 2 tints of the colour. The  darker tint at the beginning of the 2nd column is the result of mixing the colours without adjusting the tint. The lighter tint is the target if you choose to adjust it at this step. After matching the lighter tint, you should match the lighter tint for the remaining steps.

In this example, I chose to adjust the tint with white at the 3rd step, after adding Cobalt Blue.

Step 1 - Put some Lemon Yellow on the palette board.

Step 2 - Add a little Vermilion until you get a result that matches the colour for this row in column 2 (orange) . You may want to thin the paint or add a little white to adjust the tint now, or wait until the next step.

Step 3 - Having matched the mix result for the Vermilion row, add the Cobalt Blue, a little at a time. Adjust the tint as needed to match the final mix target,

Sometimes you may not be able to satisfactorily mix the required colour using the colours defined in the mix solution. In this case there may be a discrepancy with the colour definitions in the Palette Composer's palette and your paints. You may need to make a minor adjustment to the mix using another colour. Alternatively, you can import your own colours into your own catalogues by using the 'Import Colours from Image' action available from the View Palette screen.

The Palette Composer searches for the best mix solutions using only the colours in your palette. If you find the result shown on the bottom right doesn't match closely enough the target colour shown on the bottom left, you may need to get more colours. To help you identify some paints you should consider purchasing, try the 'Mix from Catalogue'  action. This action will mix the target colour using your palette and the colours in the Catalogue.

If you have run out of a particular colour, you can touch the colour in column 1 and the Palette Colour dialog will open.  The dialog includes a button to remove the colour from the Palette. The mix result is automatically updated with alternative mixes when a colour is removed from the palette.

Actions:

There are several actions available from the mix results dialog:

The Filter action opens a dialog where can use the following filters:

The Add to Palette button opens a dialog where the user can add the currently displayed mix solution to the palette, enabling it to be used for mixing other colours.

The Mix from Catalogue action will remix the target colour using colours from a selected catalogue with your palette colours. This is particularly useful when a satisfactory solution isn't found using only the colours in the palette.

The Modify Target action opens a dialog where the user is able to modify the target colour. When the user completes the dialog the mix result is updated with mix solutions for the modified colour.

The Save Target action opens a dialog where the user is able to give the target colour a name and add it to the 'Saved Colours' list from where it can be mixed again.
